Finding Time!

March 3, 2020

Day 3, Time:

Some people may wonder, “How do you find time to do art?” With family, work and friends, making meals and taking care of pets, it’s challenging. Scheduling blocks of time, using spare moments and waking up early is what has helped me accomplish time to make art.

I have bought transportable art supplies for when I’m out and about, and have gotten many sketch books. I know if I am going to be in the car (as a passenger), in a waiting room, or waiting to pick up the kids, I bring something to work on in the car.

Also, I wake up really early like 4:30 a.m., to work on a sketch or simple art work before the family wakes up. But when it is a bigger project like a commission, I make sure I schedule a few days to work on the project and break it up into steps.

I discipline myself to work on things even if I don’t feel like it, especially when it comes to writing, computer stuff or finance, since I struggle with those things.

I have pets, kids, a husband, and a home besides doing my art. So, keeping a monthly, daily and even hourly schedule helps to keep efficient and on time with work. My google calendar helps a lot, especially with reminders. I even make sure I schedule time for inspiration, like going to the museum, and for meeting up with other artists to discuss how their art biz is going and find encouragement to keep myself motivated.
Hope this encourages you to find time for art!
